CBC Leaders Expand Global Clean Hydrogen Mobility Leadership at FCVC 2025 in Shanghai, Meet with China's "Father of Hydrogen" Pinfang Wu, Set Sights on ShipZERO30 Event and 4th Monaco Hydrogen Forum

Updated: Jul 9

Fresh from their impactful presence at SNEC PV & EC 2025, the CleanTech Business Club (CBC) Leadership Family continued its China Business Mission by participating in the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Congress & Expo (FCVC 2025) in Shanghai—a premier event dedicated to clean hydrogen mobility, organized by the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (IHFCA).

Clean Hydrogen Mobility: Building Synergy Across the Global Ecosystem

Clean hydrogen mobility is rapidly becoming a strategic pillar of global decarbonization. From heavy-duty transport, maritime shipping, and aviation to industrial fleets and rail, hydrogen-powered solutions offer unique advantages in sectors where battery-electric alternatives face significant limitations.

As part of its broader vision, the CleanTech Business Club (CBC) plays a unique role by actively bridging the hydrogen and electric mobility ecosystems through its trusted Human-to-Human (H2H) networks. With strong leadership and trusted partnerships across both domains, CBC fosters collaboration—not competition—between these complementary technologies. Together with industry leaders, CBC is co-developing a joint roadmap to identify the most suitable solutions for each market segment and application. This approach ensures effort alignment, optimal resource allocation, and a more efficient and united transition to zero-emission mobility.

In April & May 2025, CBC leaders experienced firsthand the current and future potential of clean hydrogen mobility through two key activities:

  • They visited XCMG, China’s leader in clean hydrogen mobility for heavy machinery, where they observed advanced hydrogen-powered equipment in real industrial use. (Read: CBC Delegation Explores XCMG’s CleanTech Innovations in Xuzhou)

  • CBC members also got behind the wheel during the H2Driving Experience Tour in Germany, hosted by Thomas Korn, CEO of KEYOU, and the award-winning team at water stuff & sun GmbH. At this hands-on event, participants test drove a hydrogen-powered truck equipped with KEYOU’s innovative hydrogen combustion engine. "One of the most electrifying moments of the week was putting our hands on the wheel and feet on the pedal of clean hydrogen future—and feeling its power in real-time," said Julian Thomas, Portfolio Director, Energy & Battery Storage at Informa Markets, CBC Strategic Partner

Clean hydrogen mobility will also be a core theme in CBC’s forthcoming book,“Quo Vadis Clean Hydrogen? #RemovingTheBox—further reinforcing the Club’s role as a global catalyst for the clean hydrogen revolution.

Mikaa Mered Joins IHFCA Executive Board, Reinforces Hydrogen Synergy

A pivotal moment came as Mikaa Mered-Bourgeon, CBC Co-Chair for Geopolitics of the Clean Hydrogen Hub, was appointed to the Executive Board of IHFCA. This Beijing-based global association is a leading force in advancing clean hydrogen, and Mered-Burgeon’s appointment marks a strategic milestone in expanding his influence in the sector.

He also holds the positions of:

  • Canada Tier-1 Research Chair in Green Hydrogen Production Energy

  • Green Hydrogen Ambassador, International Association for Hydrogen Energy (IAHE)

At FCVC, Mikaa Mered-Bourgeon delivered a keynote building on his impactful presentation at SNEC PV & ES just a week earlier and he also previewed the global launch of the CBC's upcoming book, “Quo Vadis Clean Hydrogen? #RemovingTheBox,” scheduled for October 2025 at SNEC H2 & ES—a key event for leaders in CleanTech, Clean Hydrogen, and Clean Water.

Strategic Dinner with China’s “Father of Hydrogen”

The mission continued with an exclusive leadership dinner hosted by Mr. Pinfang Wu, Chairman of Jiangsu Guofu Hydrogen Energy Equipment Co., Ltd., widely recognized as the “Father of Hydrogen in China” and CBC Honorary Co-Chair of the Clean Hydrogen Hub.

A key pillar of China’s clean hydrogen mobility landscape, Guofu has established itself as the leading supplier of hydrogen refueling station equipment, powering over 130 stations across the country.

Mr. Wu has long understood that clean hydrogen mobility is not merely an end-use, but a strategic catalyst for building the entire hydrogen ecosystem, including the hydrogen equipment market. By focusing early on mobility-driven demand, he positioned Guofu to become a leader not only in hydrogen storage systems, refueling infrastructure, and liquefaction solutions, but also in electrolyzer manufacturing—serving both domestic and international markets with integrated, scalable hydrogen solutions.

Held at Guofu’s Shanghai headquarters, the high-level discussions focused on:

  • Africa’s Hydrogen Potential – Led by Mansour Diagne, CBC Co-Chair for Africa, exploring expansion beyond Morocco’s Go For Hydrogen Africa (GFHA) strategic joint venture into new markets such as Senegal and Kenya.

  • Offtakers Ecosystem Acceleration – Coordinated by Dr. Stefan Kaufmann, CBC Co-Chair of the Clean Hydrogen Hub (in charge of the Offtakers Ecosystem) and former German Innovation Commissioner for Green Hydrogen, outlining plans to scale demand-driven hydrogen adoption across key industrial sectors.

Dr. Kaufmann’s Leadership in Establishing the Offtakers Task Force

A seasoned hydrogen policy and business expert, Dr. Stefan Kaufmann previously served as:

  • Member of the German Parliament

  • Innovation Commissioner for Green Hydrogen at the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)

Under his leadership, CBC will soon launch a dedicated Offtakers Task Force aimed at accelerating market adoption by connecting clean hydrogen producers with industrial offtakers around the world.

Upcoming: ShipZERO30 – Accelerating Maritime Hydrogen

By special invitation from Madadh MacLaine, Secretary-General of the Zero Emissions Ship Technology Association (ZESTAs) and CBC Chair of the Maritime Hub, the CBC Leadership Family will attend ShipZERO30—a flagship event organized by ZESTAs during London International Shipping Week, taking place in London, UK, in September 2025.

This high-level gathering will focus on zero-emission maritime technologies, including the integration of clean hydrogen and other alternative fuels, and serves as a critical platform for shaping the future of sustainable shipping.

The event also builds on the strategic partnership between CBC and ZESTAs, formalized through a landmark Memorandum of Understanding signed at Hyvolution Paris 2025.

This agreement aims to accelerate the deployment of zero-emission shipping solutions by aligning stakeholders across the maritime and hydrogen value chains.

As clean hydrogen mobility continues to expand across land, sea, and air, CBC’s engagement in ShipZERO30 highlights its commitment to advancing sectoral collaboration and delivering real-world impact in hard-to-abate industries.

Next Step: Monaco Hydrogen Forum 2025

The CBC’s global clean hydrogen mobility journey will continue at the 4th Monaco Hydrogen Forum in December 2025, held under the patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, a longtime advocate of clean hydrogen innovation. (Reflecting on last year’s participation: CBC Leaders Joined Monaco Hydrogen Forum 2024)
