The CleanTech Business Club (CBC) proudly marks a new milestone with the official launch of CBC in Romania and the appointment of Marius Ion, President at Energy Investment LLC (USA), Renewable Energy Entrepreneur & Investor, as its Chair for Romania. This initiative reflects Romania’s growing importance in the European clean energy landscape and our shared ambition to drive sustainable transformation—by connecting visionary leaders, facilitating investments, and co-creating solutions that matter.

The first connection between CBC and Marius happened through an introduction by one of the CBC Family Leaders -Andreas Fornwald, Chief Development Officer at StarCharge and CBC Co-Chair of StorageVersity Hub (In Charge of North America) during our recent CBC Business Mission to China.
Shortly afterward, we met again in Romania in Cluj-Napoca, during the IN4SFS (Investment Network for Sustainability-Focused Startups) GreenMatch Brokerage Event, where Marius and his son and close collaborator Alex joined our CBC Delegation and contributed to the event's program.
The dynamic exchange of ideas, visions, and values during and after that event laid the foundation for this exciting collaboration.
Romania: A Nation on the Rise in CleanTech, Battery Storage & Innovation
Romania is fast becoming a CleanTech frontier. With strong economic growth, a young tech-savvy workforce, and increasing support for renewables, the country is poised for a sustainable leap forward.
As a member of the European Union, Romania is strategically positioned to benefit from EU funding and policy alignment with the European Green Deal.
The solar sector is expanding, with numerous utility-scale PV projects underway across the country.
Even more promising is battery energy storage (BESS). With grid flexibility and renewable integration becoming priorities, Romania is a natural candidate to lead in this domain—both in deployment and manufacturing.
During our event in Cluj-Napoca, we witnessed first-hand the immense potential of young Romanian talents, particularly in AI, IT, and engineering—making it an ideal country for the expansion of the CBC CleanTech Startup Hub.
Romania is also exploring clean hydrogen pathways, especially for heavy transport and industrial decarbonisation. As EU hydrogen corridors expand, Romania can play a crucial role in cross-border hydrogen infrastructure.
Marius Ion Appointed as CBC Chair for Romania
We are honored to welcome Marius Ion, a seasoned renewable energy entrepreneur and investor, to the CBC Leadership Family as Chair for Romania.
President of Energy Investment LLC, Marius brings over 15 years of experience in developing and financing energy and infrastructure projects across the U.S., Europe, and China. Under his leadership, the company has launched multiple large-scale solar and BESS projects, including a 200 MW PV park and 300 MW battery storage system in Romania.
He is now spearheading a €5 million green manufacturing initiative in Romania to produce battery systems, EV chargers, and transformers—helping build the country’s industrial capacity for the energy transition. His broader business group also includes EPC services, technical consulting, and innovative green finance solutions, such as operational leasing models that accelerate clean adoption with minimal upfront investment.
Marius Ion, CBC Chair for Romania shares:“After meeting with CBC Family Leaders in Shanghai and Cluj-Napoca, I understood that we share the same values and action-driven spirit. Together, we can help Romania lead in its clean transformation journey. I’m looking forward to collaborating with CBC members on the large-scale projects we’re developing and co-creating a national ecosystem. This is one of CBC’s superpowers—uniting visionary leaders under the #TogetherWeAreStronger philosophy.”
A Country of Vision, Talent, and Opportunity
Romania’s clean energy transformation is not just about technology—it’s also about people and purpose. With the foundations laid and partnerships forming, CBC Romania will serve as a platform for:
Cross-border investment into large-scale CleanTech infrastructure
Acceleration of Romanian CleanTech startups through CBC’s Startup Hub
Development of innovation ecosystems powered by AI and sustainability
Industrial partnerships for localised manufacturing and supply chain resilience
Tomasz A. Slusarz, Founder & Vision Streamliner of CBC, concludes: “Romania stands at the edge of a breakthrough moment. Its economic growth, remarkable human capital, and hunger for innovation make it one of Europe’s most exciting CleanTech frontiers. After our remarkable experience in Cluj-Napoca and now with Marius joining the CBC Leadership Family, I’m confident we’ll co-create real impact—for Romania, and with Romania—for the benefit of our global community.”
What’s Next?
Stay tuned as CBC in Romania gears up for strategic meetings, project development, and the launch of its own CleanTech innovation and investment ecosystem. New collaborations, startup scaling programs, and manufacturing initiatives are on the horizon.
#CBCinRomania is now officially launched. Let’s shape the future of CleanTech—together.
